Permitir que una comunidad, en campos del bastón de azúcar, en la República Dominicana tenga acceso al agua potable.
The problem ...
IMAGINE living without water!
Imagine living without water!
After living the Dominican experience, the students at Collège Jean-Eudes were stunned to discover that workers in sugar cane fields were restricted access to water.
In the last few years, this community has benefited from a donation from the Canadian government, allowing them to have an artesian well. Back then, the project was asking the community to contribute by giving a sum of money to feed the generator with gasoline. Even so, the price of gas went up so much that the community could not pay anymore and they had to renounce to this essential need.
Once they had come back to Montreal, the students for the Collège Jean-Eudes decided to do a fundraiser to put back in use the generator by feeding it electricity. The project, that did not seem possible at the time, became reality thanks to the devotion and the collaboration of certain teachers, and the students who poured their hearts into it.
Today, this community enjoys again the possibility of having water supplies, without paying. This is a wonderful realization that shows that it is possible to change things when we believe in them. It isn’t only the satisfaction of seeing a community find its dignity again by having acceptable living standards, but it’s also for the students the feeling of knowing they took part in the well being of humans.
